Kids in the crisis hit North West and South West regions of Cameroon have been armed with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the 21st century.
This is part of the H4BF SMART KID PROGRAM which involves kids between 6 to 17 years . For two months, 41 kids were engaged on the following.
Basic computer and coding skills: These skills are essential in today’s digital world. The kids learnt how to use computers and technology to communicate, learn, and create. This will address the lack of access to education and provide kids with the skills they need to succeed in the future.
One-on-one counselling: This helped kids with their personal and academic challenges. It also provided them with a safe space to talk about their experiences and emotions helping them to cope with the trauma of the crisis and develop the resilience they need to move forward.
Communication for peace and conflict resolution: This taught the kids how to communicate effectively and resolve conflict peacefully. This helped to address the culture of violence and conflict in the region.
Plays/poems about peace and conflict resolution: These activities were used to raise awareness about peace and conflict resolution and promote a culture of peace. This will help to change the mindset of the kids in the region and create a more peaceful environment.
Climate leadership development: The kids were given practical actions on how to address climate change. This will help them understand the impact of climate change on their communities and take action to mitigate its effects. This will also help to address the lack of opportunities in the region and give kids a sense of purpose.
Sports and arts activities that promote peace and conflict resolution: These activities helped the kids develop their physical and emotional health, while also promoting peace and conflict resolution. This will help kids to heal from the trauma of the crisis and build a more peaceful future for themselves and their communities.
